Do I Need CAD Files for a 3D Animation?

No, CAD files are helpful but not always required. A 3D animation can be built from CAD data, technical drawings, photos, screenshots, reference videos, product brochures, or even a clear written explanation of the system.

When CAD Files Help

CAD files are especially useful when the project needs dimensional accuracy, mechanical detail, or a faster modeling process. For industrial and engineering products, they can preserve design intent and reduce time spent recreating geometry manually.

If CAD Files Are Not Available

Strong animations can still be created without CAD. Product photos, diagrams, sketches, assembly references, PDFs, and short notes about the system are often enough to start a project and define the core message.

What You Should Send Instead

Useful alternatives include technical drawings, annotated screenshots, product photos, process diagrams, dimensions, videos of the equipment, and notes on what the viewer needs to understand. Even partial material can be enough for an initial review.
